Thank you for clicking to find out a bit about me. I truly appreciate it. I am like you in that I like to know a few things about the people I am reading or listening to. So I will share a bit.
I am Dave Bruno. You can find me on Twitter @guynameddave Over the years I’ve described myself as a “restless wanderer.” But then all those Wendell Berry books I had been reading started to sink in and I started telling folk that I am a “restless wanderer on my way home.” For good measure I rounded out the description with what is most important in my life and the lives of so many others, I am a “restless wanderer on my way home, only by Christ’s grace.”
I have developed a voice as an author and advocate for simple living by instigating a movement called the 100 Thing Challenge (100TC), a project focused on breaking free from the constraints of excessive consumerism. Have you ever stood in your closet or garage and felt stuck in stuff? Well, I did. But I got unstuck, and the 100 Thing Challenge was the way I did it.
The 100 Thing Challenge movement has become much larger than what I alone bring to it. That is a delight for me. It is wonderful to journey with other people. That is a part of my “official bio” too, all of you who have joined in living simply and encouraged me along the way. Thanks!
I work at Point Loma Nazarene University as the associate director of digital marketing and web and as an adjunct history professor. I should mention that the views expressed on this, the 100TC website, are not necessarily the views of PLNU.
I am happily married to a lovely wife who is marvelous beyond words, not to mention one remarkable cook. She now owns a cast iron skillet with an amazing patina. Together we have helped God create three beautiful daughters, who are doing an excellent job of growing up. We call our home Westerly House and have plans for it.
Also, I can bring a message of the benefits of simplicity to your event. I have spoken to audiences ranging from 20 to over 1,500. One example is below. If you would like to discuss the possibility of my participation in your event, please email me at dave@100ThingChallenge.com.
